Design Team

Tuesday, 31 July 2007

Last week I applied for a spot on The Scrapping Bug design team after my sister Melissa encouraged me to go for it. Late this afternoon I received a very nice email from the staff at the Scrapping Bug letting me know that I have been accepted to the five member team. Here is the official announcement. I am very honoured and excited to be a member and can't wait to get going on some new scrapbooking projects. It's not like I have a shortage of pictures to use...

Thanks for the encouragement, Mel!

Here is a shot from a baby session from last weekend. Back to photo editing I go...

10,000 and counting

Sunday, 29 July 2007

Just a quick one for today. I dusted off my studio light and finally used it with my new camera. I was really impressed with the way my camera performed with the lights. This picture is straight out of the camera - I never got results like this with my old camera.

Would you believe that my new camera that is only four months old rolled over 10,000 pictures yesterday? I started back at zero yesterday afternoon. Wow. That's a lot of pictures.

Chasing her shadow

Friday, 20 July 2007

These pictures were taken tonight in front of my parents' house. Ava was playing outside with her Nana when she discovered her shadow. She took off down the sidewalk in her barefeet trying to chase it.

My sister tagged me so I am required to tell my blog readers 7 random things about myself. My questions are pulled from an album I am working on for Ava right now using coordinating q&a stickers and paper I bought recently:

1. Who is your McDreamy? Patrick Dempsey of course but I think Cary Grant would have made a pretty great McDreamy in his day.

2. What are your quirks? When eating Smarties or Skittles, I often sort and eat them by colour. Weird huh?

3. What is your favourite junk food? The Burger King Whopper, NY Fries poutine, blueberry Pop Tarts and Kernels popcorn.

4. What's your favourite movie? Bridget Jones's Diary, I love old movies from the 30's - 50's, particularly anything with Cary Grant.

5. Who is your favourite superhero? Wolverine from Xmen.

6. What's your favourite tv show? Grey's Anatomy.

7. What am I listening to as I type this? Somebody Told Me by The Killers and Everything by Michael Buble.

I am more of a blog lurker and since the blogs I do actively comment on have already been tagged by my sister I will not be tagging anybody. However, I would like to learn more about my blog readers, so if you have any interesting facts about yourself or want to introduce yourself, please post a comment and let me know more about you. Thanks!

The beach bum

Just some random shots of Ava at the beach yesterday. More to come tomorrow - I am behind on my photo editing and could use a week of vacation just to catch up on it...

Playing in the sand...

This photo was taken by my sister. It was great straight out of the camera, but even better once I cropped some of my butt out...

A short nap on the walk home from the beach...

At the beach

Thursday, 19 July 2007

Today was a great day. I woke up to find that my picture of my beautiful niece was featured on Blog Guelph today. Then we went to visit my aunt in Wasaga Beach. We all had a great time - especially Ava. She loved the water and I got a pile of pictures of her playing.

Only one picture for today as it's been a long day and my computer is really bogged down lately (could have something to do with thousands of pictures on the hard drive...) and not running the fastest.

An engagement picture I took of my sister and her fiance at the beach...

Chickens, horses and puppies oh my!

Tuesday, 17 July 2007

On Saturday I took family photos out on the family farm (my favourite new spot for pictures). We tried to incorporate as many family pets as possible in the pictures.

The family horses Freckles and Sahara...

Playing in the barn...

Such a willing subject. I feel guilty as he was told that he had to be good for the shoot or he couldn't go golfing that afternoon. He was so fabulous and agreeable, and halfway through the shoot it started to pour rain...

Would you believe that this is one of the chicks that Ava played with a few short months ago? Pictures here...

The family's newest member, the adorable Casey (and of course the equally beautiful Sasha in the background)...

The haircut

Monday, 16 July 2007

Today was Ava's first haircut. Things went very well - no crying, no fussing, no big deal at all as far as Ava was concerned. It was quite the production - Dad supervised the cut (and was quite concerned as he didn't want too much of the curls to come off), Melissa put the cuttings into an envelope for the baby book and my mom kept a steady stream of goldfish crackers going into Ava's mouth. This is our family hairdresser. She has been cutting my hair since I was about ten years old and is just fabulous. She was so good with Ava.

The pictures aren't the most creative I've ever taken, but I was in mom mode and had creative block as far as photography mode was going. I was too busy freaking out over how cute she looked.

The lemonade stand

Monday, 9 July 2007

This is my good buddy, V. He is the most fascinating and hilarious little kid I have ever met. On Saturday at the garage sale, he set up a lemonade stand. And not just your run of the mill lemonade stand. Thanks to his parents, it was complete with a sign, an umbrella and slices of lemon. He's an entrepreneur in the making - a born sales person. There were people stopping their cars just to buy lemonade from him. We were told that we could only have two glasses of lemonade each. When I saw him pouring a third glass for himself and asked him about the rules he told me that he didn't have to follow the rules because "he owned the place"! At the end of the day, little V had earned over $30 - enough to buy the toy he'd been eyeing at Chapters. Thanks, little V. It was a great day and a pleasure hanging out with you as always.

Counting the money...

Introducing "Mr. Stretchy" who I am told could beat Hercules in hand to hand combat due to the fact that he can stretch to double his size...

One from yesterday

Sunday, 8 July 2007

Yesterday was our family garage sale. Sales went well and everyone's house is a little bit emptier now. Here is a picture I took of Ava cooling off in her little pool during the garage sale...

Some random shots

Thursday, 5 July 2007

Sorry for the shortage of posts this week. I had a wedding I had to finish editing and that took up most of my week. I am hoping to take a bunch of shots this weekend. A little friend of mine is setting up a lemonade stand at our garage sale on Saturday and I can't wait to take pictures of it. If you're in the neighbourhood stop by and buy a glass. Little V is saving for a toy. :)

A couple more from the parade last Saturday...

Sometimes you get lucky and are in the right spot at the right time. Jason's cousin proudly showing his garden to his grandpa...

Happy Canada Day

Sunday, 1 July 2007

Today's pictures were taken this morning during our town's homecoming parade. The parade celebrated everyone returning to town to reconnect with old friends as well as to celebrate town being named the Most Patriotic Village in Canada. Pretty cool distinction considering how small our town is. The picture of the marching feet was my sister's idea. It was her great suggestion. Thanks Mel!

Anyway, here's a little more about this great honour:

In November 1942, the Toronto Star ran a front page headline that read Arthur Village Gives Sons and Money to Aid the War, and recognized Arthur as the Most Patriotic Village in Canada due to 1 out of 7 Arthur residents fought in the Second World War. It was the highest ratio in comparison to villages of comparable sizes in Canada. By the end of the war, 338 Arthur residents had enlisted, and 25 were killed in action. - taken from Wikipedia

Absolutely amazing and something to be very proud of.
