day 31 - nana gets a spare

Monday, 31 January 2011

Today was a PD day for Ava so she didn't have to go to school. I tried to think of something fun for us to do. Something that wasn't too far from home and that wouldn't cost a fortune.

We decided to go bowling and it was the boys' first time.

You know, I don't really have any stories for today. I'm kind of tired from carrying two boys kicking and screaming from the indoor playground at McDonalds, so I'll just leave you with a pile of pictures from today.

Nana gets a spare.

I still have no idea how I am supposed to be cropping pictures with my fish eye attachment, but I dug it out of my bag and used it, so I guess I'd better post something I took with it.

So it was a good day. And did I mention we used coupons? For anybody in the area, the Woodlawn Bowl has buy one game get one free coupons on their web site. Today they saved us $24.50, so it was more than worth it to print them off and use them.

day 30 - fernando loves eveth

Today was an exciting day. Another Canon girl is born.

Jen and I went to Henrys to scout out her new camera. I know the specs of the camera I am looking at for myself inside and out but I really didn't know much about the rest of the current Canon and Nikon offerings. We went, asked some questions, got informed...

and the sales guy thought we were "together".

We got a good laugh out of that one.

Congrats Jen! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

The first shots in a brand new camera are important ones, so we headed over to Westmontrose to take pictures of the covered bridge and walk through it.

Hey Fernando! Your girlfriend can't spell to save her life. Here's hoping your children get your brains.

day 29 - well this is awkward

Saturday, 29 January 2011

How many days has it been? Five? Has it even been that many? Anyway, I downloaded it.

Maybe it was the catchy techno part. Maybe it was the fact that I knew the kids would love it as much as "I Gotta Feeling". Or maybe I just decided that I'm not that attached to Dirty Dancing so bastardize away. Whatever the case, damn you Will.i.am and damn you Fergie. And damn you......two other freeloading Peas. You know the ones I'm talking about. Four years in and I still have absolutely no idea what your names are.

Today we were off to a birthday party. It was a lot of fun and I was relieved to see that my sons are still only interested in beating the living daylights out of each other and didn't lay a hand on anybody else. Phew.

It's always funny to see how they react in social situations and how they put two and two together. For example, it took them exactly three seconds to realize that "pin the tail on the donkey" equals air hockey table vacancy.

Score!

Happy birthday Nathan! Thanks for a great time! If my kids sleep in tomorrow I'll buy you lunch.

day 28 - the art of the rickroll

Friday, 28 January 2011

For those of you doing Project 365, this time of year is the hardest part of the whole thing. If you can make it through to March and the nicer weather, you can go the entire stretch.

Today was one of those days. I had an idea for a photo, but it didn't work out so I had to improvise a bit. I was sitting at my desk working away and every once in a while I'd doodle a bit. I started with some lyrics from the last song I downloaded to my iPod and then went from there.

Bragging rights to those able to correctly identify the three songs these lyrics come from and one of them is a gimme.

So what do what do you do when you're not inspired? You channel all of that energy and you rickroll baby. A group (of which I may or may not have been a part) worked quickly and efficiently this morning to selflessly "jazz up" the profile of another.

All I've heard is complaining since the new Facebook profiles have come in. I happen to think they are brilliant. And the possibilities! This kind of brilliance was never possible with the old profiles. Bravo Facebook.

P.S. Check your Facebook, Len.

day 27 - a boring day

Thursday, 27 January 2011

Inspiration didn't really strike today so all I have are some randoms from various points during the day.

Snow on Ethan's jacket after a failed attempt to take pictures of the boys catching the snow on their tongues. They looked more like they were trying to swallow Big Macs whole.

Playing Just Dance on the Wii. The boys have one move, and one move alone - the Jersey Shore fist pump.

Just before dinner I coloured with the kids. I don't colour very often, but when I do, I am very particular. Ava tried to reach over to colour Ellie's shoes and I wouldn't let her because the red she had clashed with the pink shirt. I think I have a problem.

On that note, I have to give the Crayola twistable crayons two thumbs up. Regular crayons last five minutes in this house. After that they are either lost or snapped in half. These crayons have made it to the one month mark and all 24 are still intact. That's seven in crayon years.

What's even more incredible is that nobody has written on the walls with them. Apparently they are a creative block for the boys. ::two thumbs way up::

Oh and one of my shots from earlier in the week was featured on Blog Guelph today. :)

day 26 - don't just stand there bust a move

Wednesday, 26 January 2011

I am a very lucky girl. This week I have been the recipient of several thoughtful gifts from special people in my life.

Yesterday, my thoughtful sister delivered a beautiful card and four containers of my favourite candy to the office. Mwah! I am incredibly

Love you. xo

The night before, my mom dropped by the house with some delicious homemade baking. Thank you Mom. I love you

Then this morning a very thoughtful and dear friend gave me a CD compilation she made with all of the songs from our grade and high school years. Ahhh...Maggie. What can I say? I thoroughly enjoyed it and will for years to come. To express my gratitude I will defer to the master himself...

Mr. Young MC.

After that I was kind of on a roll.

I violated every Scrabble rule in the book and I couldn't stop. How could I quote Young MC and not Sir Mix-a-Lot?

I would have done more too. Damn Scrabble people. Only 2 Y's?! Seriously?! You'll need to up it to at least five or six if I'm gonna bust out some Humpty Dance.

Today I'm linking up to Paper Heart Camera and Trendy Treehouse for their bokeh layers challenges. Big thanks to Chelsey at Paper Heart Camera for the tutorial as the textures I used really made these pictures come to life.

day 25 - just the way you are

Tuesday, 25 January 2011

This morning had the usual challenges involved in getting three kids out the door and to two different locations on a schedule, but I did it.

This post is dedicated to my oldest son (by nine minutes) who walked around this morning with his music player glued to his head serenading me with Bruno Mars.

I love you just the way you are too, Bud.

day 24 - baby it's cold outside

Monday, 24 January 2011

Well, it finally happened. Today we crossed the threshold from being kind of cold to being so bitterly cold that the snow squeaks under your feet and your nose hairs freeze. Both sensations I distinctly remember experiencing when Ethan made a break for it this morning on the babysitter's driveway and I had to chase after him down the middle of the street. At that point it was -19C without the windchill. It would take the next hour to warm up my feet and I wasn't even outside five minutes.

When I got to work a little bit later it was -16C.

By the time I left work it was -10C and "warm" enough for the snow to start falling again.

Anyway, it was a pretty quiet day. A day to travel in the car with the heat blasting in your face. A day to think about random stuff - how peaceful everything looks covered in snow, how beautiful the light is streaming through the trees

and I'm certainly no expert, but shouldn't the psychics already know this?

day 23 - today is picture day

Sunday, 23 January 2011

Okay everyone: it's picture day. Get your smiles ready.

Perfect.

Armed with a new backdrop, I decided that today was picture day. I set all of my studio stuff up and then I tore it all back down. Who needs lights when you have beautiful natural light coming in through the windows?

Two little boys are a few short weeks away from turning three so it was time to do their three year pictures. I have a million and one things I want to do with them but I need to collect my thoughts and figure some things out before I share them. Start looking for them a bit later in the week.

Big thanks to Nana who came over to help me. She played with the kids and helped Ava read a story. I wondered if Green Eggs and Ham was a little too hard for Ava at this point, but she did very well and surprised me yet again.

The first picture is also my submission for this week's challenge at You Capture: happy. :)
