fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 30 June 2011

Every once in a while you find yourself in the right place at the right time. Today I found myself in that situation.

I have been away all week for work. On Tuesday, I was standing on the side of the road, camera in hand, and I heard a deafening noise. I had no idea what it was, but it was a damn good thing I had my camera around my neck.

It's not every day you see the Snowbirds come out of nowhere and fly over your head in diamond formation.

I didn't have time to adjust my iso so the fact that this was shot at a very high iso kills my buzz a bit, but I'll give myself a pass this time.

Just a reminder of the rules:

1. The picture has to be taken by you.
2. The picture has been taken during the past week and it can be a picture you have posted earlier in the week.
3. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.
4. Please include the Fabulous Friday button (below) in your post to link back to my site.
5. Leave feedback for five other participants. Let them know what you think!
6. By linking up you are okay with me re-posting your photo here if you are chosen for the top five.

Now let me see your shots! Have a wonderful Canada Day weekend everyone!

Nothing to report today other than it has been a beautiful week on the road and I miss the kids.

I know. I too am shocked at that revelation. ;)

day 180 - we don't need no stinkin' underwear

Wednesday, 29 June 2011

My business trip continues, so I am going to substitute pictures taken on Sunday.

As you can see from these pictures, potty training is not going well. It's not the hill I'm ready to die on just yet as potty training both of the boys at the same time is exhausting. So for the meantime, diapers it is and I'm not going to stress about it. It will happen when it happens.

Exhausting is the name of the game this week. Try as I might to get everything done, there just aren't enough hours in the day. Is it the weekend yet???

day 179 - right place, right time

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

I know, I know. I should have used a Top Gun quote for this post title. The truth is, I'm not really a fan so I can't bring myself to do it. I'm more of an Airplane fan than a Top Gun fan and try as I might, I just can't tie it together.

Today was very cool. I was standing beside a corn field, when out of nowhere flew the Snowbirds in diamond formation.

They went right over my head and as quickly as they appeared, they were gone. I was lucky enough to have my camera around my neck at the time.

My iso was really high having just taken some indoor shots and I'm kicking myself for it, but I got the shot and that's the important thing. It was definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time.

fabulous friday - top five and a winner!

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great week. Sorry for the delay in posting this week's favourites - I am away on a business trip.

Before I get into the favourites, I wanted to answer a reader question about the iPhone app I used to create the pictures I posted last week. The app is called Half Tone and it's $1.99 in the app store and I love it. Have fun!

Speaking of half tone, I really liked this picture by Jessaca. It's real life meets cartoon strip. I thought it was very cool and original.

I loved the simplicity of this shot by Danelle. It's very peaceful and I love the sharpness of the water droplets.

This shot by Marla is fantastic. Love the perspective and I love the blurry wheat in front making it seem like she was standing there in the middle of the field.

And then running like hell to get away from the combine. Anybody remember Superman III?

Loved this shot by Leigh. These are shots I would blow up huge and frame for my living room. Love them. What a beautiful series.

And the winner of Fabulous Friday is...Kel. I love everything about this shot she took at the park. Great shot and processing!

Have a great week everyone! And thanks for playing along!

Feel free to grab your buttons winners! Thanks again everyone and have fantastic week.

day 178 - sweet things

Monday, 27 June 2011

Today marked the beginning of a week of work travel for me. I took a pile of pictures but they were work related. Instead, here are some pictures I took of Shannon and family on Saturday after the wedding.

I think I just found my new favourite place to take pictures. It's very Keith Urban-ish.

It doesn't hurt to have beautiful subjects too. Thanks guys!

day 177 - thank god we're not with that kid

Sunday, 26 June 2011

This day has been a long time in coming. Today we finally went to see Cars 2. In mandatory McDougall fashion, a picture must be taken with the movie poster.

Wait a minute - my kids are actually listening. I don't quite know what to do with this.

And here we go.

As challenging as my kids are, I wouldn't trade them in just yet. Especially not for the kid in front of us who threw up all over the place. Thank god he wasn't mine.

day 176 - a summer wedding

Saturday, 25 June 2011

I don't wear much in the way of colour most of the time and most of my wardrobe is black. So this afternoon when I noticed that A. my dress matched my phone and that B. I didn't have dog drool or snot on my outfit, a picture was taken to mark the occasion.

Today was a beautiful day for a summer wedding. Congratulations Davin and Samantha!

My apologies to those participating in the bouquet toss who didn't count on the younger competition.

Many people have an opinion on marrying age. Exactly how young is too young?

Five years old is definitely too young.

day 175 - the thrill of the hunt

Friday, 24 June 2011

Retail therapy. There's no feeling quite like it. The thrill of having cash in your hand...the breeze in your hair as you spin down the aisle...

I'd say I created this look but this look dates back to long before I was born. This look has my grandmother all over it.

The only difference is my grandmother never fell asleep in my back seat on the way home from the mall.

Ava is making great strides, but she's still in training.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 23 June 2011

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a good week. I found my creativity again and got the jump start I needed, so I'm pretty happy. Here's my photo for this week. It was taken the night of Owen's sunset tractor ride.

Just a reminder of the rules:

1. The picture has to be taken by you.
2. The picture has been taken during the past week and it can be a picture you have posted earlier in the week.
3. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.

day 174 - school's (almost) out for summer

It's unbelievable to me that Ava is almost done her first year of school. I don't know where it went, but it went fast.

Today was Ava's kindergarten class celebration and I was so happy to be there.

It's been a fantastic year and all day, every day kindergarten has been amazing in my opinion. Ava is reading and writing sentences and small paragraphs. She has learned so many things and has overcome a lot of shyness.

So today we celebrated. Flowers were bought (I took this with my iPhone - not bad, huh?),

cake was eaten

and apparently stories have been told.

I wonder what her stories are about.

On second thought, maybe I'm better off not knowing.

day 173 - three minutes in the cage with spiderman and bone saw mcgraw

Wednesday, 22 June 2011

Trampoline days are here again. I can safely say that it is the best money we ever spent.

The only draw back is there's more wrestling being done inside than jumping. It's like watching an intercontinental championship cage match. Way to go, Spiderman (RIP Macho Man).

Tonight I got on the trampoline with the kids and I wasn't getting off until I took a decent picture with my Hipstamatic app. I'm finding the square orientation a real challenge, but I liked this one:

This is Ethan shortly before he jumped so hard his pants fell down around his ankles.

day 172 - go ava go

Tuesday, 21 June 2011

Not a fantastic day photo-wise. But it was a good day all around.

An invitation came in the school mailbag

and Ava had a couple of breakaways at her soccer game. I am so proud of her. She's come a long way from walking around picking flowers.

(Please excuse the quality - it's a still from a video I took.)
