Sneak preview

Thursday, 30 October 2008

A shot from a recent wedding. The bride is a local bar & grill owner. The groom was giving her a lesson in the pool room. Even though she owns the place, she has never played...

Just one for today

Monday, 27 October 2008

Computer time has been few and far between lately. Normally I can stay up until 1 or 2 no problem but not the past few weeks. The boys are much more active and so am I from chasing them all over the place.

Here's the latest page I made. The green background is exactly like the background they use on the show and is from a free kit called Flowers Garden downloaded from here. The green grid paper and orange paper is from the same kit. The blue background with dots and the text path around the outside of the page is from a new grab bag from Elemental Scraps. The red background used for the dotted circle is from the Joyful Tidings kit from Shabby Princess. The title letters are recoloured from the Art of Play kit by Heather Ann Designs. The template is by Chrissy W. The Super Why characters were close cropped from an image I found with a google search. I added the drop shadows to the characters.

New layouts and pictures

Friday, 24 October 2008

Here are some new pages I created for the kids' scrapbooks. I've been struggling a bit lately, hating everything I come up with. I think I'm back on track though. The second and third layouts contain new pictures from this past weekend.

The fall photo checklist is pretty much complete. Pumpkin patch check, apple orchard check, jumping in leaves check. I've got Halloween stuff left and after that we are set.

A page for Ethan's scrapbook...

A page for Owen's scrapbook...

A double page layout for Ava's scrapbook...

Top two layouts created using templates by Chrissy W at Elemental Scraps and bottom layout created using a freebie template from Yin Designs. First two layouts created with My Funky Studio kit from DDE and Scribble Alpha from Sweet Shoppe Designs. Bottom layout created with Kickin' Up the Leaves kit by Gina Marie Huff. Alpha is Hip Hooray (Fall) from Sweet Shoppe Designs and "fabulous" and "fun" are wordart from the Kickin' Up the Leaves kit. I modified the leaves from the kit to make them more doodle-like. Swirl is modified from the Fall Medley kit from Shabby Princess.

Recent wedding - part 2

Tuesday, 21 October 2008

As promised, here are some more pictures from the backyard wedding from August. The bride was fantastic and very relaxed and I think that really comes across in the pictures.

Probably the most beautiful and vibrant bouquet I have ever seen...

The ring...

A quiet moment before the ceremony...

Newly married...

The family John Deere...

The tire swing. Now this one was fun. I was on the swing too. We wound it up tight and then let it go. It was a bit tricky as the sun was very bright and I had to watch for my shadow. I also had to watch that I didn't fly off the swing and break my camera. This one was my favourite...

The bride and the flower girl swinging on the tire swing...

The bride and her groom...

Another ring shot...

Recent wedding - part 1

Monday, 20 October 2008

Here are some pictures from a recent outdoor wedding. Of all of the weddings I have done over the past 5 years, I'd have to say that the weddings from this year have had the most beautiful flowers.

Before the ceremony...

The bride and the adorable flowergirl...

The locket...

The flowers...

The bride and her father waiting to walk into the backyard...

The bride and her grandfather...

Part two to come tomorrow.

Two new layouts

Sunday, 19 October 2008

Here are a couple of pages from this week.

ColorSplash paper, doodled border, dates, flowers and alphabet by Sweet Genevieve at Oscraps and Felty Glitter Alpha (freebie from La-di-da Studios). No template used and I doodled a bit to match the border..

I used the Simply Irresistible kit from DDE for this layout, word balloon from the Gift of Gab kit from Heather Ann Designs recoloured to match layout. To create this layout I modified a free template from Little Dreamer Designs. Big thanks for Shannon for pointing me in the direction of this fabulous resource for free scrapbooking templates, kits and elements - Scrapping with Ikea Goddess.

And a few more...

Wednesday, 15 October 2008

Ava and her favourite toys. All supplies and template by Sweet Genevieve from Oscraps.

Supplies from various kits including Sweetest Thing, Penelope and Simply Irresistible kits from DDE, blue Alphabet is from the Art of Play kit from Heather Ann Designs and the template is by Chrissy W. at Elemental Scraps.

All supplies from the Art of Play kit by Heather Ann Designs. Alphabet is Parker from DDE and recoloured to match colour scheme. Plane is a dingbat and the font used is Pea Hilary. Template is by Chrissy W. at Elemental Scraps.

I don't like this page, but after working on it and moving things around over and over, I am tired of it and am moving on. I think it's the colours I don't like. Oh well, time to move on to the next one.

A few layouts with never before seen pictures

Monday, 13 October 2008

Well, I've been pretty focused on catching up with the kids' scrapbooks so for the next little while you will see a lot of my pictures through new scrapbooking layouts. A lot of the pictures are more snapshots than artistic but that's okay. I need to tell the story and sometimes just a good old fashioned centred picture is all you need to get the job done.

Dude Seriously. - Kit is My Funky Studio from DDE, the template is from Chrissy W at Elemental Scraps and the epoxy element is from Heather Ann Design's Art of Play kit.

This layout was made with the same template I used in my Dude Seriously layout from above. This page was made with a free kit called Kindergarten Crafts from Peppermint Creative and the word bubble is from the Gift of Gab kit from Heather Ann Designs. The blue and red alphabet are recoloured versions of a free alphabet from krystalhartley.blogspot.com.

Fall Fair - The supplies used here are from a kit called Cute Spooks from Kay Miller Designs. I recoloured a few accents to better suit the layout. The rocketship is from the To the Moon kit by Melanie Ann Designs. The alphabet is from the Penelope kit from DDE and the template is by Jen Caputo at Scrapbook Graphics.

Family - Kit is My Funky Studio from DDE and the little crowns are from the Parker kit from DDE.

My new favourite picture

Wednesday, 8 October 2008

This picture was taken by my sister. Ava and I were watching planes take off at the airport. I absolutely love everything about it - the shadows, the composition, the sense of scale. It's just a perfect picture. Thanks for capturing such a great moment, Mel!

Trip to the apple orchard

Sunday, 5 October 2008

Yesterday we went on a day trip to Chudleigh's and had a fabulous time. Here are some shots from the day.

Gala apples growing in the orchard...

Ava picking apples...

Ava and her little high tops on the hay ride...

Somebody outlasted Nana and is wide awake in the backseat on the way home...

This picture is my favourite. This picture alone was worth every litre of gas it took to get to Chudleighs, worth the admission fee and worth each and every apple product we purchased and loaded into the car when we left.

And because I can kill two birds with one stone and pop my edited pictures right into my scrapbook layouts, here is a layout containing other pictures from the day. The kit used is Sweetest Thing by Digital Design Essentials and the template is by Chrissy W at Elemental Scraps (thanks for the recommendation Shannon!).

A few more layouts

Saturday, 4 October 2008

Thanks everyone for your kind comments on my first attempts at digital scrapbooking. I'm really liking it and I think it's because Sheri has given me some tips and pointed me in the direction of templates that are very similar to my paper scrapbooking style. Anybody who has seen my paper scrapbooks know that my pages are pretty simple with the focus being on the pictures and journaling and easy on the embellishments. Thanks to Sheri I am really happy with the results and feel inspired instead of overwhelmed or frustrated. Thanks Sheri!

Here are some new pages...

This layout was done with a kit by Mindy Teresawa at Designer Digitals and a template by Jen Caputo at Scrapbook Graphics:

This kit is called Gift of Gab by Heather Ann Designs and the template is by Jen Caputo:

This was done with a template from Heather Ann Designs, the background is from Gift of Gab, the alphabet is from Heather Ann Designs and the clip, flowers and thread are from Digital Design Elements:
