Project 365

I haven't made any New Year's resolutions mainly because I forget them immediately after I make them. Instead, I am embarking on a new project this year. Project 365. What's Project 365 you ask? Project 365 is a year long project where you document your life by taking at least one picture a day. Here is a great description of Project 365 which will explain it far better than I ever could.

Once you take your pictures, you have to publish it somehow - whether it's on a blog, in a scrapbook page, etc. I have decided that I will do a little bit of both. I will take at least one picture every day and post them to my blog either individually, or in a weekly scrapbook layout. The whole point of this exercise is to look back at the end of the year and see how much things have changed and how many things I never would have remembered had I not captured it with my camera.

It will be an adjustment and I am sure there will be days where I will forget, but I am very excited to see the ongoing results. To make it happen, I will have to take my camera everywhere I go (within reason of course). I am excited and inspired at the thought of the things I will now be able to capture instead of being disappointed I didn't have my camera with me. Like that really cool icicle I saw a few weeks ago or that ridiculous sign I saw on my way in to work that I wish I had gotten a picture of.

My subject matter will most likely consist of my children and that's perfect because I don't always remember to write down key information. But now instead of writing about that new tooth, instead I will capture it with the camera. The possibilities are endless and I am really excited.

If you are interested in doing your own Project 365, here are some additional resources for you:

- Start your own blog to document your project. http://www.blogger.com

- Register your Project 365 here and Scrapbook Graphics will send you free digital scrapbook templates. There is also a forum where you can post links to your pictures/layouts and see what other people are documenting for their own project. http://www.scrapbookgraphics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4462

- A list of ideas of things you can photograph: http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/images/stories/magazines/creating_keepsakes/January2009/365ideas.pdf

- More links can be found here: http://ikeagoddess.blogspot.com/2009/01/happy-new-year.html

Another recommendation I have is to sign up for the Photojojo newsletter here. They have a lot of great ideas and each newsletter is a keeper.

Here is my first layout which uses one picture from each of the last three days. It's only been three days, but it's amazing how many things I have taken pictures of that I normally wouldn't (and trust me - I take A LOT of pictures). Tonight I snapped a picture of Ava on the phone saying goodnight to her Nana. It's a picture that I am so glad I got and I know it will be one of the pictures I treasure most when I look back on this project.

This is great that you're doing Project 365 too! I honestly didn't give it much thought until yesterday.

I love the layout you did!! Can you send me a link to where I can download it. Also, thanks for the link to register to get a free template! I think having the templates will make this whole project a lot easier. And of course the fact that we're doing it all digital!! Aren't you glad you became a digital scrapbooker :)

I will be checking out your blog to see your weekly layouts. I will be posting my photos on flickr and hopefully be posting my layouts on my blog too!

Thanks, Sheri. Glad to hear you are doing one too! It will be hard to remember to take a picture every day, but once I get into a routine it should get easier. Yes - thank goodness I am doing this digitally or it wouldn't happen. ;)

The template can be found here. It's actually a two page template. I just used the one side.

I really love the way that you have scrapped this. I'm doing 5x7 scraps but I think the full size is wonderful... lovely photos as well... thanks for sharing
