Well today was definitely an interesting day. It was Ava's last day of swimming lessons. She finally dunked her head under the water. She told her teacher she would do it if she held her hands. She passed Sea Turtle and is on to Salamander next summer.
During the afternoon, the babysitter discovered that Owen's big toe was red and infected around the edge of his fingernail. It didn't look very good so I called Telehealth Ontario and after a twenty minute wait they called me back. The nurse's first question to me? Is he conscious? My response? Yes. He's actually dancing in the living room. (He actually was.) What a stupid question, but obviously somebody was dumb enough to call them instead of 911 at some point.
Anyway, I was told he had to be seen by a doctor within 24 hours. Living in a small town, we don't have a walk in clinic and our family doctor is closed until Monday so my dad and I packed him up and took him to the hospital. Big thanks to my mom for watching Ethan and Ava. :)
We got there at 9 pm and were out shortly before 11. I had to help the nurse hold him down while they lanced and drained it. :( He handled it like a champion. He cried but he didn't squirm or scream so that made it easier on everyone.
Then we were off to get the prescription and were home shortly after 11:30.
And that was our day and the first of many, many ER visits I expect to go through with two very active, fearless boys.
Thanks for looking!
