day 151 - soccer picture night

Tuesday, 31 May 2011

It was soccer picture night. I remembered my camera and forgot my memory card. How ironic is that? Thankfully I was not the official photographer.

I'm disappointed I didn't have it with me as Ava and Lily got a breakaway. Lily got the goal and Ava got an assist (Do they even have assists in soccer? No idea.). They shared the cutest little hug afterward and I missed it.

And it will end up bugging me for weeks because that's how I roll.

day 150 - cutting the grass

Monday, 30 May 2011

These two are the more serious members of the household, so shots like this are a rarity. Smiles like this only happen while riding on the lawn tractor.

(That's Ethan.)

fabulous friday - top five and a winner!

Thanks for participating everyone! Without further ado, I give you this week's winners.

This shot by Barb is beautiful. I recommend checking out the series she posted. It's gorgeous.

There was just something about this shot by Tiffany. So simple yet so beautiful. Love this.

Paper Mama entered newborn shots that she did and I absolutely love them. How sweet!

I absolutely loved this shot by Jaymi. Anybody can take a portrait but it takes a great photographer to get your subject to look as at ease as this. It's absolutely stunning.

And the winner of Fabulous Friday is Audrey. I absolutely loved her series of shots of her son. Take a second and pop by her post as she also has a great article on how to get a toddler to smile. Thanks Audrey!

Have a great week everyone! Thanks again to all who participated. See you Friday!

day 149 - fun with sidewalk chalk

Sunday, 29 May 2011

Today the boys got matching Spiderman bike helmets. It's high time as they've been looking kind of funny wearing hockey helmets while they cruise up and down the street. They are a huge hit and they don't want to take them off. It's a good thing because they also haven't stopped beating the hell out of each other.

Other than that we just played with some sidewalk chalk and skipped with the other kids on the street.

In typical Owen fashion he tormented his brother.

These helmets are going to end up being the smartest thing I ever bought.

day 148 - mommy don't go

Saturday, 28 May 2011

My how girls' night has changed. Five years ago I didn't have kids hanging onto the side of the mini van as we tried to pull out of the driveway.

Come to think of it we also didn't drive to girls' night in a mini van.

I feel compelled to point out that the van was stopped in the driveway when this photo was taken. Ethan was not hanging from it as we drove down the street.

Anyway...hilarity ensued. Bridesmaids = Awesome. I highly recommend it.

I also learned two very valuable tips from my brilliant friends:

1. If you are going to smuggle food into the movies in your purse, go with Pringles so they don't get crushed.

2. If you are going to the drive in, pick up a pizza from Dominos and smuggle it in under the seat.

Sheer brilliance.

Thanks for a great night ladies. xo

day 147 - in full bloom

Friday, 27 May 2011

When we left for Phoenix one tulip was open in the garden and the rest were tightly shut. My hostas were only a couple of inches out of the ground.

We got home to discover that everything is suddenly in full bloom. All of the tulips are open and the hostas are massive. It's amazing how much everything has grown since we left.

Hmmm. Boring too. I promise the next one's a good one.

fabulous friday challenge

Welcome to another week. I have taken thousands of pictures in the past week and have barely made a dent in them as far as processing goes and have high hopes to find some editing time this weekend.

Here is one of my favourite shots from the past week. I took this shot of Ava while on a jeep tour of Sedona. This is the look of a child on vacation, free from school, worry and her brothers.

Show and tell time! I can't wait to see what you came up with.

Just a reminder of the rules:

1. The picture has to be taken by you.
2. The picture has been taken during the past week and it can be a picture you have posted earlier in the week.
3. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.
4. Please include the Fabulous Friday button (below) in your post to link back to my site.
5. Leave feedback for five other participants. Let them know what you think!
6. By linking up you are okay with me re-posting your photo here if you are chosen for the top five.

Thanks for participating everyone! Have a fantastic weekend.

day 146 - fashionista

Thursday, 26 May 2011

Ava and I don't always never agree when it comes to clothes. I pick out an outfit for her to wear, she has a fit and picks out something totally different. Every. Single. Morning.

I take her shopping with me and she selects clothes for me to try on, usually picking out the brightest, most hideous thing she can find on the rack.

We couldn't be more different, but this week we agreed on something for once.

The ten year old me would have loved this outfit.

Who am I kidding? The 34-year old me would have bought these boots for myself if they came in a size 6-1/2.

day 145 - baby birdies

Wednesday, 25 May 2011

Today we discovered a robin's nest in the wall planter just outside of our front door.

That is all. It was a slow day which is a rarity around this place.

fabulous friday - top five and a winner!

Sorry for the delay everyone! We were in Phoenix over the weekend and flying home took much longer due to the severe weather in the US. I hope you are all okay and that none of you were affected by the tornadoes that touched down over the weekend.

Here are this week's winners. This week's entries made me go through a range of emotions.

The first entry by Cher made me happy. It helped me find the beauty in what has been a miserable and rainy spring thus far. This shot is stunning and is proof that there are still beautiful things worth photographing in this wet weather.

This shot by Kristen inspired me. It's absolutely perfect from the processing right down to the composition. I love the sense of scale, the pose, the year on the curtain...everything. One day her daughter is going to look back and be thankful that she got this fabulous shot.

This shot by Shannon also inspired me and it made me happy. I love the vibrant colours and I love the sharpness of this shot. It's absolutely beautiful.

This shot by of two tired tourists on a bus by Camaca made me swoon. It spoke to the part of me that likes to sit and watch chick flicks for hours on end. And it was shot with an iPhone. In fact all of her shots are done with the iPhone and absolutely no Photoshop - you should check her blog out.

And that brings us to this week's winner of Fabulous Friday: One. When I saw this picture I looked, then I looked a bit closer. Then I believe my reaction was something like "is that beetle spanking the other one"? And then I fell off my chair.

Hands down the funniest submission so far. Bahahahahaha... Love. It.

Have a great week everyone! Thanks so much to everyone who participated. See you Friday!

day 144 - the adventures of stanley the freeloading stowaway

Tuesday, 24 May 2011

Today was the final leg of our trip. We woke up in our scary hotel room (at the Crowne Plaza Hotel LAX where $89 is $88 too much) and after another long wait at the airport, we boarded our last flight home to Toronto. It was the best flight so far. I was able to watch The King's Speech and charge my iPod while I flew. I love you, Air Canada.

We arrived home feeling a little tired and dirty after 36 hours of travel. The freshest face of the crew was Flat Stanley who tagged along in Ava's carry on. Let's summarize his adventures, shall we?

3 states, 4 airports

4 flights

one beautiful wedding

one delicious breakfast at iHop

one so-so dinner at Sonic

one bumpy jeep ride

and lots of fabulous new scenery.

7,830 kms traveled. All for the bargain price of $0.

Freeloading buggar.
