day 74 - sunroof weather baby!

Saturday, 31 March 2012

Sunroof weather is here! It was +17 C on the way home from work tonight.

It's exciting but also scary. If the temperature rises past twenty people are going to start taking clothes off and hairy backs will abound.

day 72 - march madness

Friday, 30 March 2012

March break, day one. I took the day off work to spend with the kids. The first order of business? Skating.

Day 72

It went pretty well but I could have done without tying and retying Owen's skates five times.

Day 72

Apparently my skate tying abilities weren't up to his standards.

Day 72
Day 72

God bless all of the stay at home moms out there. I'm going back to work tomorrow to sit at my desk where it's quiet.

day 71 - the good old hockey game

The days of driveway hockey are among us and Owen's got quite the slapshot.

Could spring finally be here? It's sure looking like it.

day 70 - halfway to seventy

Today is my 35th birthday. I don't handle birthdays well and I haven't since I turned 30. Age is just a number but holy crap is the number getting big.

Just because you're halfway to seventy it doesn't mean you have to grow up. You can still do fun things like play glow in the dark mini golf and hang out in the arcade.

day 69 - what is this?

Here are the boys playing on the iPod tonight before bed. Wait a minute -- they are within an inch of each other and they aren't fighting.

There's a first time for everything.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 29 March 2012

Welcome to another week and another Fabulous Friday challenge. Big, BIG photography plans this weekend. This Saturday night from 8:30 to 9:30 Earth Hour takes place. Stay tuned because if everything goes as planned, a lot of pictures will be taken during Earth Hour. What are you doing for Earth Hour?

In the spirit of low light, here's another shot from Gopher's a couple of weeks ago. Here's Ethan trying his luck in the arcade. Best words in the English language: "Win every time". It's right up there with "All day breakfast".

Day 70

Have a great weekend! Thanks for linking up.

Just a reminder of the rules:

1. The picture has to be taken by you.
2. The picture has been taken during the past week and it can be a picture you have posted earlier in the week.
3. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.
4. Please include the Fabulous Friday button (below) in your post to link back to my site.
5. Leave feedback for five other participants. Let them know what you think!
6. By linking up you are okay with me re-posting your photo here if you are chosen for the top five.

day 68 - a dusting of snow

This has been the strangest winter ever and I have loved every second of it. We've had very little snow and the weather has been all over the place. Cold one day, unseasonably warm the next.

This morning we got a dusting of snow and I got creative while brushing off the car.

day 67 - the skating club presents toy story

Another year of skating lessons came to an end tonight with the skating club's annual end of the year carnival.

At the ages of 4 and 6, all three children can officially skate better than their mother.

day 66 - straight m's baby

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

It was a big day today! Report cards came home and we were thrilled to discover that Ava had straight M's across the board (apparently A's = M's in senior kindergarten).

Interesting stories huh? Craaaaaaap.

Day 66

In all seriousness, I have found the all day, every day Kindergarten to be an amazing experience. Ava loves it and is thriving so I have no complaints whatsoever.

day 65 - photo night

Tonight was picture night during skating lessons. The theme for the skating carnival on Wednesday is Toy Story and this photo of Owen was taken while the "Lil Jessies & Lil Woodies" were waiting to have their pictures taken.

This is a horrible picture due to low light and no flash, but I was not the photographer tonight. Thank goodness because if looks could kill, the photographer wouldn't have made it out of the arena.

Apparently Owen only likes posing for his mother.

day 64 - we are slowly going crazy

This weekend I didn't go anywhere from the time I parked my car on the driveway Friday night until Monday morning when I left for work.

The kids were crazy all weekend. I have never been so happy to return to work as I was on Monday morning.

Day 64

(This is Owen by the way. It was taken on Sunday, March 4th.)

day 63 - the indoor water slide

Snow day! Three little kids changed into their swimsuits and made a water slide on the stairs. I must say - this was quite imaginative. Thankfully I had stripped the beds and the blankets were already on the floor or this wouldn't have been half as cute.

Day 63

I would like to point out that no children were hurt during the taking of this picture. They were cautioned to be careful however.

As you can see from the picture below, the advice was appreciated and well received.

day 61 - documenting project 365 with the momento app

Sigh...I can't find my pictures from days 61 and 62. I'm having USB issues with my laptop and it's causing me grief. Remember that hard drive I had with 1 TB full of pictures taken over 2010 and 2011 that packed it in on me??? It's a long story but basically it's toast.

So instead I am going to use this post to tell you about my new iPhone app that I am using to help me with my 365.

Have you heard of Momento? It's a diary app that you can download for iPhone and iPad. It's pretty slick - it pulls your various feeds (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, RSS feed) and it records it all in calendar format.

I have been using the notepad on my iPhone to record funny things the kids say, but it's not very convenient and I can't match my notes with pictures. Momento lets me add moments in diary format. I can add a story and Momento lets me attach pictures, tag contacts and set locations for my post. Then when I fall behind in my blogging (I can't remember the last time I was caught up), I can go to Momento for prompts to help me remember what I did on a particular day.

I highly recommend this app. The only thing that would make it better is if it synced with other Apple devices using iCloud, but I am sure that update will be made eventually.

I hope this was helpful!

day 60 - for sale: one dog

Monday, 26 March 2012

My mom makes the best bread pudding. It's my favourite.

Last night my mom delivered a pyrex full of it and the kids and I had small pieces after dinner. I don't know how long it will be before I get another one so I like to savour it.

Later, after the kids went to bed, I was sitting upstairs and I heard a noise. The second I heard it I knew what it was. I ran downstairs to find the dog with her front paws on the counter. She had nosed the foil out of the way and was chowing down on my bread pudding.

Day 60

It's a damn good thing you're cute Scarlett.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 22 March 2012

Welcome to another Friday! Have I shown you this picture yet? I took this picture of Owen a couple of weeks ago at a glow in the dark mini golf place.

There's something about low light and alternate light sources that I love. The light on the right side of his face looks like window light but it's actually the light from an arcade game. I also like my sister and Ava in the background playing pinball. But the thing I like most is that I didn't setup this shot. This pose was all Owen.

I did a lot of tweaking to this photo. My iso was as high as it would go and the original of this photo was grainy. I used a Florabella noise reduction action and it turned things around quite nicely.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for linking up! I can't wait to see your photos.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 15 March 2012

Happy Friday everyone!

This week's shot comes from my iPhone. Have you tried the Camera Awesome app by SmugMug? I downloaded it a week ago and it certainly is awesome. The pictures straight out of the phone are punchy and beautiful and there are a ton of helpful tools including image stabilization and burst mode to name just a few.

But the best part of this app? The names of the presets. Truffle Shuffle, More Cowbell and More Wang all in one app?! Almost too good to be true.

Camera Awesome

Bravo, SmugMug. You had me at camel toe.

More awesome

Now it's your turn. What was fabulous about your week?

Thanks for linking up!

day 59 - everlasting gobstoppers

Tonight I came out of work and found a present on my car from my sister. She had tucked an envelope under my wiper blade with a package of Sour Patch Kids and a box of the best candies ever made...Gobstoppers. Thanks Mel! xo

Speaking of my beautiful sister...hell has frozen over, my friends.

She has joined Facebook.

Day 59

And yes, my sister calls me "Boogs". She's called me that for years but there's no background story. At least not that I can remember. If it turns out there is, I sure as hell won't tell you it.
