Something new for me

Monday, 29 September 2008

As some of you may know, I am an avid scrapbooker. I've been keeping up with the kids' scrapbooks, but don't have a lot of time to create as much as I want to. Each layout takes me quite a while to create and I really have to think ahead as to what I want to do, what size my pictures need to be, etc. Then I print a pile of pictures, select my paper and set it aside to be worked on when I get a chance. That chance is usually when the kids are napping or playing and I end up practically destroying the living room in the process with supplies lying all over the place (that is to say all of the places that the kids can't reach). I have admired Sheri's digital layouts for a long time. I find them very inspiring. So I thought I would give it a try. I know my way around photoshop and I have a few kits from various projects I have worked on in the past, so how hard can it be? Here are my first stabs at digital scrapbooking:

First layout - took several hours...

Second layout - took about a half an hour...

Third layout - probably took 45 minutes...

Fourth layout - took about an hour and a half because I didn't like it at first and kept reworking things until I liked it...

So the verdict so far is me likey. Very much. I miss the dimension and sifting through supplies, but it's a lot faster and less frustrating for me at this point with such little time to work with.

These layouts use various kits and templates purchased from various digital scrapbooking sites. It's really late and I am very tired so I won't go into specifics. Feel free to email me if you are curious as to any of the supplies I used.

Thanks for looking! And big thanks to Sheri for the inspiration!

A few from the pumpkin patch

Monday, 22 September 2008

We're on the ball this year with the pumpkin patch pictures done already. I took a pile of pictures but am too tired to work on them tonight.

Here are a couple for now.

Owen in his monkey costume...

Ethan in his dragon costume...

You may be wondering why the dragon costume looks familiar. Here is a picture from the fall of '06. A certain other little McDougall wore the same costume:

I remember this day very well. Upon arrival at the pumpkin patch, I discovered my camera case had decided to lock on its own. After ten minutes of trying to force it open with a tire iron we gave up and I had to shoot with my dad's Nikon. *GASP*. A Nikon. Better than nothing I guess. ;)

If you are wondering why I am tired (other than the fact that we have three kids under the age of 2-1/2) - it's because it was a late night last night:

This one goes out to my sister who I would have put money on as the screamer at the beginning of the first clip, but it was shot from a different section than the one we were sitting in. :)

Thanks for looking and thanks for a great time last night, ladies!

(I should add that although these clips are from the show we went to, these are not my clips.)

Six month pictures

Friday, 12 September 2008

Here are some new studio shots of the boys at six months. It's amazing - they can sit up for a few seconds on their own, are very close to crawling and are able to roll right across the room if they want to get some where. I am afraid - very, very afraid. It doesn't help that this week Ava opened the sliding door and escaped twice while I was changing diapers and also learned how to open the child proof locks on the cupboard doors. Anyway, here are the pictures:

Ethan...

There is just something about the way the light is hitting his goobery lower lip.

Owen...

A few more from Wasaga

Wednesday, 10 September 2008

Here are some more pictures from one of our two trips to Wasaga Beach this summer.

In this first picture I wanted a shot that would capture exactly how small the kids are at this particular point in time. Their footprints seemed like a good way to do it so we added in our own in to give a sense of scale. From l to r: Jason, me, Ava, Ethan & Owen.

Here are a few more of Ethan wearing my cousin's cowboy hat...

This whole tongue sticking out thing is his new trademark.

Ava and Daddy sitting watching the water at sunset. This could be the last summer where her legs stick off the chair like this so I wanted to capture it.

All of us (thanks for a great picture, Mel).

From the car on the way home. These sure weren't around when I was a kid and we used to make the trip...

Thanks for looking!

Scarlett

Sunday, 7 September 2008

Here is my first baby - Scarlett. She's almost six years old and at times can be as much work as the kids. As you can see in the pictures, she is very protective of them and they adore her. Ava tries to ride her like a horse, and is constantly in her face. The boys pull her tail and tug on her cheeks and she just lies there and takes it all with a smile on her face.

An old picture, but by far my favourite picture of Scarlett...

Lying with Ava on the floor in her room. I love how their arms are intertwined...

Ava & Scarlett in a rare moment where they are both quiet and not racing around the house...

Owen petting Scarlett's face...

A few more from the courtyard

Wednesday, 3 September 2008

A few more shots of Ava exploring the courtyard while the family pictures were being taken...

Watching a plane fly overhead...

There was just something about the way the light and shadows were hitting her little feet on the steps. Her poor little ankles had deep little marks from where the buckles did up and didn't complain once. We didn't notice until she took her shoes off at the reception later that night.

Spinning in the courtyard

Tuesday, 2 September 2008

Here are a few more shots of Ava from my sister's wedding. Although dresses are growing on her, she is still very particular about what she wears. It took some convincing to get her into her flower girl dress. By the time these pictures were taken, the struggle to get her into the dress was a thing of the past and from the looks of things she was actually starting to like it.
