day 145 - lacrosse superstars.....?

Friday, 29 June 2012

Lacrosse night. Way to get in there boys. I like your approach of knocking the ball out of the stick of your competitor.

It would work even better if he wasn't your brother and he wasn't on your team.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 28 June 2012

This is not the picture I wanted to post. I wanted to post a picture of my beautiful new nephew, but I'm going to make you wait as I've really only gotten snapshots to this point. Sunday is photo shoot day and my shutter finger is actually beginning to twitch. Stay tuned. :)

Instead I am going to post this picture. Can you believe I took it with my iPhone? Yup. Not so shabby for a point and shoot.

Time to link up! I can't wait to see what inspired you this week. Have a fantastic (long) weekend (where applicable)!

Just a reminder of the new and improved rules:

1. The picture has to be taken by you.
2. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.
4. Please include the Fabulous Friday button (below) in your post to link back to my site.
5. Leave feedback for five other participants. Let them know what you think!

day 144 - that lady doesn't wear underwear

Wednesday, 27 June 2012

All of my stories for today are laundry related. Rather than tell you myself, the content for this post comes directly from the kids.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

I get home from work and see Ethan is wearing his pajama pants:

Me: Ethan - why are you wearing your pajama pants?
Owen: Ethan crapped in his pants three times today!

I'm in the kitchen folding laundry. Golden Girls is on the TV as background noise.
Ava (pointing at Blanche on the TV): Ethan!! That lady right there doesn't wear underwear!!

photo

My photo for today is somewhat laundry related. My kids have this obsession with being able to wear their pajamas outside. They get quite excited on the rare occasion that it happens. Here's Ethan caching in the cemetery with me in his mismatched pajamas.

His mother had to reach into a tree for a cache and she chickened out so we had to settle for one find instead of two. I may have to pay one of the kids to reach up into the tree to get it for me.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 21 June 2012

A big welcome to my new followers and thank you so much to everyone that linked up last week. I'm glad to have you all here.

My friend Gayle informed me that I need to update the rules. Basically since I keep breaking them...so check out the new rules below. Basically there are fewer rules. Still link up your favourite shots with the Fabulous Friday icon and post comments for five other posters, but the whole "must be taken in the past week" thing doesn't apply. Post what you want and enjoy!

Here's my shot for this week. I hate the fact that the long grass appears to be sticking out of his ear, but I can deal. I like the look on his face. Somewhere in my travels the past week, a site was encouraging photographers to shoot through items when you take a shot. This is my attempt. I used a shallow depth of field (as I often do), and had long grass right in front of my lens. I like the effect and I'm inspired.

day 143 - clash of the (mini) titans

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

The moment we've all been waiting for - the epic battle between the green team and the blue team. Player #3 vs. player #3, head-to-head in a battle for pure bragging rights.

There was taunting.

day143_4

There was shoving.

day143_3

There might even have been some tackling.

day143_2

And people wonder why they aren't on the same team. Thank god we only have to go through this crap every three weeks. I'm sure one day I will look back at all of this and laugh as much as the rest of the parents watching, but for now I can't. But come to think of it, it's far better for them to beat the hell out of each other instead of others.

day 142 - a beautiful day for a photo shoot

Tuesday, 19 June 2012

No crazy stories today. It's kind of odd to have nothing to report. Oh well. Nobody swore in front of a grandparent or embarrassed me in public (or at least that I can remember), so I guess it's a good thing.

Today was an awesome day. A beautiful, warm sunny day that finished off a nice long weekend. It was a perfect day for a photo shoot.

day 141 - owen the chatterbox

Monday, 18 June 2012

Certainly not the best picture I've ever taken, but most of today was spent painting the deck. This shot was taken during a street campfire and fireworks display for Victoria Day.

My son Owen the chatterbox. Not sure what he's telling our neighbour, but I suspect it's every bit as colourful and inappropriate as yesterday when he felt compelled to tell several people that "my mommy has a bum crack".

day 140 - the man way up at the top

Sunday, 17 June 2012

I don't consider myself a religious person. Spiritual yes, but religious, not so much. So when I suggest going to church on a sunny Saturday afternoon on the way to the mall, we're definitely not going to mass.

We're going geocaching.

And this was no regular cache - it was our first multi-cache (okay technically second for Ava and I - we failed the first one).

A multi-cache involves going to the location as determined by GPS and using a series of clues to find the final location and the cache. The coordinates had us start at the Church of Our Lady. The first step was to find the year the church was designed by the architect. Then count the number of steps from the parking lot level down to Norfolk Street and the number of steps from the parking lot level up into the church. The final count was the number of men above the doors, including "the man way up at the top". At that point we did some simple math on my iPhone and we were off to the ultimate destination.

day140_2

Then we were off to the mall because every good geocacher needs some retail therapy.

And poutine.

day140

Note to self: explain to Ava who "the man way up at the top" is. I think she's been sleeping through religion class.

fabulous friday challenge

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Another Friday is finally here! It's time to link up and show me your shots! I can't wait to see them. :)

Here's my shot for this week. It was taken a couple of weeks ago and is very different from my usual shots in that the subject didn't talk back. ;)

Have a great weekend! Thanks for linking up!

day 139 - national sarcasm society - like we need your support

Wednesday, 13 June 2012

This weekend's project is staining the deck and starting to build an outdoor living room, so we headed to Home Depot after work. The McDonalds consumed in the van on the way isn't going to win us any nutrition awards...but I'll get over it.

day139

I hear all the time how much my sons look like Jason and they look nothing like me. What they get from me comes out in personality and usually in the form of an inappropriate swear word in front of the grandparents.

Overheard in the car:

Ava: Awww. She only gave us our drinks and didn't give us our hamburgers.

Owen (totally deadpan in his delivery): She only has two arms, Ava. She's not an octopus.

day 138 - photo walk by ava

The camera club photo walk through Ava's eyes.

The last picture makes me laugh - she took a shot of herself going down the slide at the park.

day 138 - it's a duck in a box

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

If there's one thing I love, it's graffiti (photographing it, not creating it) and that's exactly what we found tonight on a photo walk with the Mount Forest Camera Club. Ava came along with Jen and I and we had a great time.

And as usual, Ava took better pictures than I did. Here are some of my shots. I will post hers tomorrow night.

day138_11

It was a great time and I was happy with the pictures I took, however upon closer inspection I had to do a tighter crop on the shot of her taking a picture of me due to some graffiti I didn't notice when I composed my shot. You kiss your mother with that mouth, punk?

You know, you meet some interesting individuals when you hang out under a bridge. We came across some random punks who were hanging out. I was a bit worried when the one guy walked up to us and asked if we wanted to see his pet.

That's right people.

Wait for it....
