It's Thursday again...

Thursday, 29 March 2007

This is by far my favourite day of the week. I leave you with a new picture and another video of clips from Grey's Anatomy...

This picture was taken during our walk on Tuesday when the temperature hit 20 degrees C. Ava hates wearing sunglasses but doesn't mind them on her head (which is exactly like me - I wear them more as a hair accessory). Or maybe it was the fact that the band made her ears stick out that bothered her. :)

Adorable newborn

Monday, 26 March 2007

I was lucky enough to photograph this little man at only seven days old. He was such an agreeable model - he slept the entire time I was there. Whatever position we put him in, he just went with it. I remember trying and trying to get Ava to tuck her legs up under her body like he is in the pictures and it didn't work at all - she refused to lie like that.

The family was very agreeable too - the big brother was in the mood to be in some pictures and the parents were very easy going hence the diaper free picture. (Not everyone agrees to this due to the pee factor.) Thanks guys - it was a great time and I hope I can take pictures of him again!

My very own "big kid" table

Wednesday, 21 March 2007

On Saturday a very special item was delivered to our house - a beautiful new dining room set. My grandmother passed away suddenly in September and my mom decided that she wanted to buy my sister and I each something special with her inheritance. Since we shared many a meal with my grandmother and cooking and entertaining people was one of her favourite pasttimes, we agreed that a dining room set would be one of the best ways to preserve my grandparents memory and make sure that our family traditions continue.

I think my grandparents would be proud to know that 50+ years after they came to Canada with very little, they were able to leave something not only for their kids, but for their grandchildren as well. Thanks, Mom for such a beautiful keepsake.

Two new ones

Monday, 19 March 2007

Here are a couple of new pictures. Things have been pretty busy so I haven't had much time to take pictures. I can't wait for the warmer weather so I can start getting some pictures of Ava outside. I have so many ideas - I just need the snow to disappear.

I'm hoping to upload some new scrapbook layouts and a few new pictures that I am working on, so look for some new posts later this week. Also believe it or not, Ava will soon be one so her official one year pictures are coming.

Ava meets Franklin

Friday, 16 March 2007

Ava and I love to go to the library. We go at least once a week and bring home a pile of books and we try to read a few every day. Today as a part of the library's March Break programming, they had a storytime and meet Franklin hour. I have read a few Franklin books to Ava, but I'm sure she didn't have a clue who he was. If Clifford was there it might have been a different story. Clifford is one of the few things that can hold her interest.

She seemed to have fun while she was there. She had no interest in Franklin though - she was more fascinated with the fact that she was surrounded by little kids. While she was there she sat with her cousins Aiden and MacKenzie and found them very interesting and entertaining.

These aren't the greatest pictures for a couple of reasons a) I didn't want to look like a Japanese tourist by taking 300 pictures when the other parents took 2 pictures and b) it was hard to take pictures with Ava in my lap.

My mom is in the picture holding Ava. :)

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANNON! Hope you had a great day.

Ava and her daddy

Thursday, 15 March 2007

Ava just started standing last week and already she's trying to climb onto the couch and up the stairs (which are now blocked...). She also likes to crawl over the dog or anything else in her way.

Here are some pictures of Ava playing with her daddy and Scarlett yesterday. While they aren't the best pictures technically, I still like them because they tell a story. You can tell they were having fun and I can hear her squealing and laughing when I look at them. My favourite is the closeup of Ava - she looks so happy.

On a totally different topic, if any of you are interested in rubber stamping or making greeting cards, my sister is hosting an event called Stampalooza on Saturday, April 14th. The tickets are very reasonable (includes lunch, snacks, make and takes and a brand new set of stamps). If you want more details, visit her blog.

Random images

Wednesday, 14 March 2007

Here are some pictures taken over the past week. Our spare bathroom is not the best background for the pictures in the tub, but that's where we do Ava's baths.

It felt so good to get back to black and white. I like colour, but there is just no comparison for me. Black and white is so simple and it just conveys so much more emotion.

Anyway, enjoy!

Inspiration

Tuesday, 13 March 2007

In case you were wondering, a lot of my inspiration comes from watching old movies and listening to music. I listen to music (usually very loud) when I edit pictures and listen to anything from Keith Urban to the Beatles to Boston. I also LOVE old movies from the 1930s - 1950s. How can you not be inspired when the men wore tuxedos all the time and the women wore fabulous hats and dresses? Too bad that look has been replaced with baggy pants and white socks with black dress pants...

I get inspiration overload watching this Keith Urban video. If only Arthur had an aquaduct...

And here is my current favourite - Grace Kelly by Mika. A great song to listen to in the car over and over again. Melissa, Ava and I listened to it at least five times today when we went on a road trip.

The many faces of teething

Monday, 12 March 2007

These pictures sum up today perfectly. Ava was in a bad mood for almost the entire day. She has four teeth coming in on the top and is pretty miserable. The only times she didn't cry was when she watched five minutes of Clifford, had her half hour nap and when she ate food from Scarlett's bowl and I had to fish it out of her mouth. For the most part everything upset her except our daily game of crawl to Scarlett's bowl 3,000 times while she is eating and let Mommy carry you back across the room. It's a good thing we have an easy going dog. Not many dogs would let someone reach into their bowl while they are eating.

Sorry I didn't post much last week - I was a bad blogger. Will try to post more this week. I have some new scrapbook layouts to post and hope to take a bunch of pictures. I need to get back into black and white mode. As I converted the above picture I realized how much I miss it. Colour is fun, but there is just something about black and white. Anyway, Ava goes to the library to see Franklin on Friday, so there should be some opportunities there.

Here are the pictures that sum up the day:

The big one

Sunday, 11 March 2007

30. It's all fun and games until it happens to you.

To mark the beginning of this chapter, here is a quote from my favourite movie which happens to be about a girl in her thirties:

"At times like this, continuing with one's life seems impossible and eating the entire contents of one's fridge seems inevitable.
I have two choices--
to give up and accept permanent state of spinster hood and eventual eating by dogs...or not.
And this time, I choose not.
I will not be defeated by a bad man and an American stick insect.
Instead, I choose vodka and Chaka Khan."

A second look

Wednesday, 7 March 2007

I was playing around with photoshop yesterday and wanted to try something new, but I needed a landscape picture. I immediately thought of the pictures I took two summers ago when we went to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

It's funny to see how my style has changed since then. I remember standing on that street corner for at least five minutes in the rain (while Mel, Craig and Jason were getting soaked), waiting and trying to get a shot when there weren't any cars or people in the frame. It wasn't easy, but I did get the shot I was looking for and was happy with it at the time. But yesterday I went back and looked at the others that I took and this shot, which I classified as a reject at the time, immediately caught my eye. This is the shot that I would take if I were standing on that corner today.

I love how the car is blurred in the bottom left showing the motion and I like the people on the other side walking across the street. I think the two things balance each other and make the picture more interesting. I may just make a print of this and put it up somewhere.

So if you are interested in photography, you might want to go back through your old pictures and see if there are any shots that deserve a second look. You may be pleasantly surprised. I plan to look through some more of my old stuff too.

Thanks for looking!

Art lesson

Tuesday, 6 March 2007

Truth be told, this was not Ava's first time colouring - she first tried it about two weeks ago when we visited my mom at the library. BUT - this was the first time she did more than just eat the crayons. The crayons actually touched the paper this time.

EDITED TO ADD: I should add that the spiral notebook and crayons were bought for Ava by her Nana the last time we were at Michaels. Thanks, Mom!

They are definitely not great pictures, but they tell a story and that is what I like. Here they are:

So many crayons, so little time...

This picture reminds me so much of me as a kid. I couldn't draw or write anything without my tongue sticking out of my mouth.

The creative process...

One from the other day

Here is a picture I took of Ava late last week. I took a bunch of pictures of her yesterday, and hope to post a series of them later on tonight. Yesterday was lost due to the weather and the highways being closed (a piece of siding on the back of our house even blew off in the wind) so we have some running around to do this afternoon once Ava wakes up from her nap.

Ava & Clifford

Saturday, 3 March 2007

Here are two new pictures for today. I took a pile more, but it's been a long day. Ava is starting to take an interest in the tv. A few shows catch her attention like Clifford did this afternoon.
