day 212 {tag you're it}

Friday, 31 July 2009

Ava spent the afternoon with my mom today while we were at work. She had a great time. I snapped a few pictures of her playing with my mom when I picked her up.

Here she is playing tag with my mom. She cheats BIG TIME. Here she is "resting". After running around for a while, she turned to my mom and said and I quote "I don't know about you, but I'm tired. Let's rest." Then when my mom sat down, she tagged her and ran away.

Other than that, it was an uneventful day and I didn't take many pictures. The only other picture I took was of the bulbs Ava planted with my mom. They are coming up nicely.

day 211 {finger puppets}

Thursday, 30 July 2009

Today was another crazy day. The boys climbed and threw anything and everything they could find. Ava and I got a break at naptime thank goodness. She played with finger puppets and then we made Banana-Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies using a recipe I found posted on List Girl's blog. Thanks Todd!

Another day, another game. I was sitting at the kitchen table and wondered why the boys were suddenly so tall as everything they could climb or use as a ladder was hidden in the kitchen. They were using the truck straps around the entertainment centre as a tight rope and trying to stuff things in the vcr. (I followed the colour coding today. That's Ethan in blue.)

day 210 {shiner}

I love my children dearly but the past two days have been rough. The boys have been into everything and I was exhausted and had a headache last night by the time they went to bed. I only took a couple of pictures. The big news of the day? Owen hit Ethan in the face.

Luckily he bounced back fast and was happy shortly afterward:

Actually, make his lower lip a little bit poutier and add some tears and this is what he looked like when it happened.

day 209 {tractors}

Tuesday, 28 July 2009

Today was a great day. I got out of the office and got to do a photoshoot for work. Francesco and I went to Exeter to take pictures of sprayers and soybean fields. I can't show you the pictures from the shoot because they are for client work but here are some random shots I took wandering around.

To give you an idea how huge the tires were on the sprayer we were shooting, look at how small my feet are.

It was a great day. Sunshine for once (it is thundering and lightning as I write this) and I think the temperature got up around 28ish which is a rarity this summer.

day 208 {sunshine}

Monday, 27 July 2009

Not much happened today. I was back to work. FINALLY the sun came out and it turned into a decent day on the way home. This picture really doesn't do what I saw justice. There were rays of sunlight everywhere.

The only other news of the day? We have a nice new light at the corner of our path. Big thanks to my father-in-law for making it happen. :)

That was it. Pretty boring. Oh well, I guess every day can't be exciting.

day 207 {shower}

Sunday, 26 July 2009

Today was a good day but the weather was absolutely miserable. My mom and I headed to Oakville for my cousin's wedding shower. We met at my sister's place. I had new pictures for my children's godmothers:

My cousin Erica is godmother to Ethan and my sister Melissa is godmother to Ava and Owen.

In the parking garage on the way to the shower:

My beautiful cousin Alexandra. She is getting married in October.

Another important thing that happened today? A milestone was celebrated. Look what happened one year ago today:

Happy anniversary Melissa & Craig!

day 206 {owen's boo boo}

Saturday, 25 July 2009

A pretty quiet day around here. It was a day of bandaids and antibiotics for Owen. It was a day of new Ava appointed nicknames. She hasn't done that in a while, but she did not disappoint. Ethan's nickname was hilarious.

Here's Duckie's supplies for his sore toe:

And here's Shiny Tim after dinner:

day 205 {emergency room visit}

Well today was definitely an interesting day. It was Ava's last day of swimming lessons. She finally dunked her head under the water. She told her teacher she would do it if she held her hands. She passed Sea Turtle and is on to Salamander next summer.

During the afternoon, the babysitter discovered that Owen's big toe was red and infected around the edge of his fingernail. It didn't look very good so I called Telehealth Ontario and after a twenty minute wait they called me back. The nurse's first question to me? Is he conscious? My response? Yes. He's actually dancing in the living room. (He actually was.) What a stupid question, but obviously somebody was dumb enough to call them instead of 911 at some point.

Anyway, I was told he had to be seen by a doctor within 24 hours. Living in a small town, we don't have a walk in clinic and our family doctor is closed until Monday so my dad and I packed him up and took him to the hospital. Big thanks to my mom for watching Ethan and Ava. :)

We got there at 9 pm and were out shortly before 11. I had to help the nurse hold him down while they lanced and drained it. :( He handled it like a champion. He cried but he didn't squirm or scream so that made it easier on everyone.

Then we were off to get the prescription and were home shortly after 11:30.

And that was our day and the first of many, many ER visits I expect to go through with two very active, fearless boys.

day 204 {swimming lessons}

Thursday, 23 July 2009

Today was a good day. Ava had her second last day of swimming lessons. Today's lesson was in the rain as it was a miserable day weather wise. Here she is rocking her back float. I think she scared herself the first day when she went under the water unexpectedly because she still refuses to dunk her head. She did put her face under so she could look for a weight and bring it to the surface but that's as good as it gets. Oh well. She is enjoying swimming lessons and that's the main thing. She jumps around in the water with a smile on her face the entire time and does all of her floats well so it's still progress.

My new favourite picture of Owen. He was playing with Ava on the kitchen floor with a blanket. He'd sit on the blanket and she'd drag him around. At the time I took this picture he had decided he needed a little rest. The boys eyes are really hard to describe but I am really beginning to think they are more green than anything.

day 203 {ava's socks}

Wednesday, 22 July 2009

A pretty uneventful day today. Ava played in her room for a bit this morning before swimming lessons. When I walked by her room I discovered she had unpacked her overnight bag from her sleepover at my parents' house on Sunday night. She had two overnight bags. One I packed for her and the one that she packed on Friday. The contents of her bag? 22 pair of socks, a tiara, a dress and underwear. She had the socks unpacked and lined up on the floor like this:

Somebody (me) had the brilliant idea to abandon the colour coding and put Ethan in red and Owen in blue which confused me for the whole day. I had to stop and think before I called out to either of them.

Here they are warming up for another fun game of "pull the picture frame off the wall". This is just before I ran across the room to stop them.

That was it. The only other photo worthy thing about yesterday would have been my dance party with the kids before bed. We listened and danced to Ava's new favourite song:

day 202 {a new game}

Tuesday, 21 July 2009

Our bedtime process is always a bit different when Jason is on afternoons. Ava is first out of the bath instead of last so she gets mad that she can't play longer. Owen is mad because he wants a bottle. Then I get mad because I try to blowdry Ava's hair and I have one boy trying to pull the plug out of the wall while the other one smashes the blowdryer repeatedly into the side of Ava's head. At this point Ethan was pretty happy and well behaved. Three minutes later he was jumping on the dog and trying to pull the three picture frames in the background off the wall.

We have a new game in our house: push the kitchen table into the living room. Fantastic.

Ava is still having accidents. I gave her trouble for peeing her pants yet again. She got very mad at me and told me "yeah well you look like the wicked queen from Snow White!" It could have been worse. She could have said I look like the old lady with the poison apple.

day 201 {wardrobe malfunction}

Sorry for the delay this week. Things have been crazy as I have been playing catch up with my weekly Project 365 layouts, my creative team layouts and I have an article due for the next issue of the Artisan Notebook. I've still been taking my pictures though.

Here are my pictures from Day 201. Few and far between because it was a work day for me. This is Owen just before bedtime. I bought these pajamas (they say "Don't let my size fool you") for the boys just before Christmas and they still don't fit. Five minutes after I put them on him he had transformed it into an off the shoulder number.

And was naked two seconds later.

Other than that, nothing much going on here. Just getting back into the swing of things after a week of vacation. I am frustrated with myself because as much as I hate following the crowd, I find myself listening to Michael Jackson in the car. I fight the crowd as long as I can and then I give in. Case in point my transformation into a New Kids fan and my obsession with Twilight. Resistance is futile I guess and sometimes the crowd is actually right. I find myself listening to this non-stop:

As thrilled as I am to discover that Steve Perry was a part of this I never would have known that was Kenny Loggins in there. I would have put money down on his part being sung by a girl. I also can't help but wonder why Bruce Springsteen always seems to be constipated.

On the weekend I realized the generation gap between myself and Ava. We were driving in the car listening to a Michael Jackson mega mix. I don't know about you, but when I hear the lyrics "ma ma se ma ma sa ma ma coo sa " I immediately think of "Wanna be starting something" by Michael Jackson. When she heard it she screamed out "Rihanna!" recognizing it from "Please don't stop the music".

day 200 {goderich}

Monday, 20 July 2009

Today we went to the beach. When we left it was spitting, overcast and miserable. It was that way minus the rain until we were five minutes outside of Goderich. At that point the weather did a 180 and turned into one of the most beautiful days we've had this summer.

On the way there I discovered I need to update my pictures in my wallet. Here's the boys last year on their first trip to the beach:

Owen's on the left and Ethan is on the right.

I wanted Ava to experience Jiffy Pop so I picked some up.

The Jiffy Pop company owes me $3. Twenty minutes later it still looked like this:

So much for that.

Here are some other randoms from today:

Ethan in the swing on the beach:

Owen's footprint on the beach.

Ethan walking with Daddy.

Ethan chasing the seagulls.

Owen lying with me in the shade. This was short-lived. (Thanks to my sister for taking this!)

Ava jumping waves with Auntie M and Uncle Craig.

Auntie M and Ava.

The aftermath of one scoop of bubble gum ice cream. I forgot Ava had never had bubble gum before. I think she ate it.

My mom and dad and my dad's offensive hat. :)

There was a full moon out in the middle of the day. :)

Why do I keep taking pictures of my feet? My feet appear in more pictures than my face. Oh well, I prefer it that way.

The way home:

I have a lot more pictures than this but this is a late enough night as it is. Maybe I'll post some more later in the week. Thanks for looking!
